Bush cricket

P1060158

This Dordogne beauty posed obligingly for me but I had to wait until I got hold of my book on insects to ID it. It’s a bush cricket, which goes by the latin name of phaneroptera nana.

This didn’t mean a lot to me, but I was impressed that the somewhat dated book I have gave enough info to help me decide what it was; there are 6 pages of bush crickets in the book!

Close inspection reveals the crazed pattern of markings on the wings and the spots on the body.

I didn’t expect to find a bush cricket on a flower in bright sunlight, so there’s an added bonus.
