On a perfect, warm sunny day, with low humidity, these are some of the wild flowers I saw growing in Brazos Bend State Park last week.
There were insects, birds, turtles and alligators too – more on these to follow.

The sweet Herbertia (the lavender flower) is one of my favorites. Not blooming here yet that I’ve seen but should be soon. Lovely photographs.

Thank you for giving me an ID on that flower – probably my favourite. I can do reasonable bird ID in Texas now, but not yet fowers!

They’re difficult. This one is unique, fortunately. So many plants have such similar species that are only properly differentiated by things like stem shape or hairs under the blossoms or how the seeds are shaped. It’s maddening sometimes. That thistle, for example. No idea which one it is. Would need to see leaves and original flower and probably other parts. Most of them here are non-native, but that’s about the extent of my knowledge of them. I’m just now learning this stuff and even with four books and the internet I get stumped a lot. I used to consider myself a decent taxonomist until I started trying to ID plants. 😬

I’m guessing that if there are alligators you are visiting the other side of the pond! 😉
